Xi'an University of Technology (XUT) is a high-level university co-built by the central government and the local government and a key construction institution in Shaanxi Province. It is also one of the universities implementing the National Higher Education Revitalization Plan in Central and Western China -- The Basic Capacity Construction Project for Universities in Central and Western China, and one of the “First-class University Construction” Universities in China in Shaanxi Province. In July 2020, the university was jointly funded by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and Shaanxi Province.

The School of Economics and Management of Xi'an University of Technology was founded in 1958, formerly known as The Department of Engineering Economics, Beijing Institute of Machinery, which is one of the earliest engineering institutions in China with management disciplines. The college has a reasonable layout of disciplines and a complete system. Currently, there are two first-level doctoral programs in management science and engineering and business administration. The business administration discipline consists of two second-level disciplines for doctoral degree authorization, such as business management, accounting, technical economics and management, and tourism management. There are 9 disciplines including management science and engineering, business management, accounting, technical economy and management, and regional economics, which has the right to confer a master's degree. Among them, management science and engineering and business administration are both key disciplines in Shaanxi Province and national key cultivation disciplines.

The MBA education of XUT is rooted in the school’s rigorous academic fertile ground, developed in the disciplines of management science and engineering, business administration, and applied economics.
